Former President Donald Trump hit back at Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over his refusal to compromise on abortion policy.
Graham started the back-and-forth by responding to Trump’s statement on his campaign’s official abortion policy. While Trump praised the overturning of Roe V. Wade, he argued that abortion policy should be a state’s rights issue and endorsed the idea of a 15-week ban.
Republicans have lost a number of abortion referendums, even in traditionally red states like Kansas and Ohio, since 2022. President Biden has also been accusing Trump of endorsing a nationwide, outright ban on abortion.
Graham — who has always had a back-and-forth stance on Trump despite endorsing him — took to X to voice his disagreement with the former president. “I respectfully disagree with President Trump’s statement that abortion is a states’ rights issue,” Graham wrote. “Dobbs does not require that conclusion legally and the pro-life movement has always been about the wellbeing of the unborn child – not geography.”
